From Icebergs to Islands – Days 13 and 14

Saturday started with the midnight to 3am watch. This and the 3am to 6am watch are hard as you are tired and have to set your alarm for about 40 minutes before your watch starts to get dressed. It was still very cold so lots of layers, boots and foul weather gear were needed. A cup of coffee was essential before briefing from the on-watch crew.

We were still motoring with the main up as a steady sails as too little wind to sail.

Supper that night was disrupted by everyone rushing up on deck to watch a pod of whales go past.

We were now in the Denmark straight the body of water between southeastern Greenland and Iceland. It gets a lot of bad weather as weather systems seem to get funnelled though this gap. Whilst we were crossing the weather remained calm and the sea glassy at times with no swell.

The forward head has a steel watertight door on, so this door is very heavy, whilst stepping through the door the boat rolled, and the door swung back on me trapping my leg between the frame and the door. It gave me quite a fright, and I thought I was going to end up with a broken leg. Luckily there was no damage beyond some mighty bruises and my pride. I noted in my dairy that it would have been an unfortunate way to end my adventure!
