Thank you to our wonderful scribe Ade Sanderson who has sent us a piece about the Mulled Wine event that took place in Port Erin just before Christmas. ( I’d like to add my thanks to all of you who made this a great success 🙏. Carole)
“We were so lucky, after all the storms, to get a window of a few hours of fine, dry weather for the Port Erin Christmas Festivities in early December. The nip in the air made the generous nips of spicy and warming Mulled wine extremely popular! A magnificent total of £450.50 was raised for our charity by jovial Martin and Debbie Brunnschweiler and their friend Gilly Quirk who helped them keep that delicious wine flowing.
Peter Crebbiln was a great help to Martin, both in carrying equipment setting the stall up, and dismantling it all at the end of a very busy day. All was nicely packed away as night began to fall and we were all home and dry before the weather turned into its wet, icy- cold, wild winter mode once again!
The stall was nicely placed, next to the roasted chestnut stall on the platform at the railway station. Hordes of people turned throughout the morning , to get the special train at midday. As as they enjoyed all the entertainment going on on the platform, the queues increased for the mulled wine!! . A record number of folk turned up for the train rid, so many that three extra carriages were put on! Margaret Brierley treated Peter to the train trip as a Christmas present and a personal thank you for being such an enthusiastic volunteer for SFTD. Sir Miles Walker, our president, was there with Lady Walker supporting us and having a great time at this very busy and festive occasion.
Our charity extends huge thank you to Martin and Debbie, for continuing to choose our charity to benefit from this happy and festive event. It certainly gets everyone in the mood for Christmas! “
