Dear Members and Supporters,
We appreciate the patience and understanding of our members and sponsors as we navigate the challenges of returning POM III to service. The journey has been longer than anticipated due to unforeseen technical issues and supply chain delays, but we want to assure you that we are fully committed to getting her back on the water as soon as possible.
Progress on Repairs
Since September, POM III has been undergoing essential repairs with a specialist marine engineering firm. Unfortunately, the process has encountered several delays outside of our control, including:
- Initial misdiagnosis of the issue – The turbo was first identified as the cause, but after returning it to the manufacturer, further inspection revealed that the problem was with the engine’s valves.
- Supply chain setbacks – The wrong replacement parts were shipped, followed by an incomplete order, which required further delays while the correct components were sourced.
- Unexpected personnel delays – The assigned engineer had a family bereavement, and unavoidable holiday scheduling further impacted progress.
Despite these setbacks, significant progress has been made:
✅ The boat is now back in the water
✅ Gel coat repairs, propeller work, and drive seal replacements are complete
✅ The final stages of testing are underway
At present, one final engine component requires adjustment, and once this is resolved, we will arrange for the boat’s return.
Bringing POM III Home
We are working closely with the engineering team to finalise repairs. As soon as we receive confirmation that all work is complete, we will dispatch a crew to bring POM III back to the Isle of Man.
Previously, in good faith, we sent a crew to collect her based on information that she was ready. Unfortunately, upon arrival, we learned that a key component had not been delivered, delaying the process further. While frustrating, this was outside of our control.
We share the disappointment and frustration that POM III has not yet returned, but our priority is ensuring that when she does, she is fully operational and ready for a safe and successful season ahead.
A Busy Winter Behind the Scenes
While repairs have been ongoing, the Sailing for the Disabled Board has remained fully active. Key initiatives include:
- New Boat Project – Work is currently underway on defining requirements and shortlisting options for the next generation of our sailing vessel, with further updates to membership on the project in the next few months.
- Operational Readiness – Plans are in place for a smooth restart of our sailing programme once POM III returns.
- Strategic Planning – We continue to engage with sponsors, partners, and members to ensure a strong and sustainable future for the charity.
- Social and Fundraising – Fundraising and Engagement committees have joined together for mutual benefit and efficiency- this was agreed and the first meeting took place last week to start discussions on the way forward.
Looking Ahead
We completely understand the eagerness to see POM III back in action. We are in regular communication with the engineering team and will provide further updates as soon as we have a confirmed return date.
We encourage members to check our official channels—our website, Facebook, and WhatsApp groups—for the latest information. If you have any queries, please reach out directly rather than relying on second-hand information.
Thank you for your continued support—we look forward to welcoming you back on board soon.
