After a couple of false starts earlier in the year, Sir Miles and Lady Walker were finally welcomed onto POM III for a trip out of Peel at 11:30. Skippered by Bobby, with Chris (Mate) and Frank providing able assistance, our Patron joined Cherry, Elizabeth, Richard and Paul for the trip down towards Dalby / Niarbyl.
The wind was blowing out of the South resulting in some BIG tacks being required in order to gain any mileage in that direction. There were a number of other boats in the area also enjoying the opportunity for some great sailing, with Sir Miles, Richard and Paul all taking opportunities to take the helm (under Bobby’s watchful eye). The wind constantly tried to push us back to Peel, so after 90 minutes we gave in and started back. With the wind pretty much behind us, we reached 11 knots – thrilling doesn’t really describe it!!
Once back in Peel we tied up on the mooring buoys in the bay and enjoyed a late lunch. Lady Mary produced some amazing homemade shortbread, which didn’t last long!! Once back in the harbour we had another cup of tea / coffee, and Cherry presented Lady Walker with some flowers. Weary, hair blown, and lungs full of fresh sea air, we all departed.
