Sailing as a crew/carer

Application for sailing membership is considered from able applicants, aged 18 years and over. You should be prepared to sail as a crew/carer, helping a member with disability, which requires a level of fitness, agility and the capability of being responsible for another person. You will also be required to undergo Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) checking, disability awareness training and sail training.

Enabled Sailors

Disabled membership is open to any person, 12 years and over who has a disability which impacts on their day-to-day living. This may be permanent or temporary.

Land-based Members

Non-sailing membership is open to anyone who wishes to support the charity and who might be prepared to help with
fund-raising, administration and social activities.

General Information

Vetting

The welfare of all our members including those under 18 and vulnerable adults is of paramount importance to us.

All able bodied adults who wish to sail with the organisation must consent to a DBS check.

Training

Members wishing to become crew/carers are required to undertake disability awareness training and sail training once their DBS result has been received.

Change of Circumstances

You should update any change in your circumstances i.e. your address, email address, telephone number etc. via the Manage My Membership feature on this website.

Duty of Care

As a responsible organisation, we make every effort to ensure the safety of all who come sailing with us. Our Children and Vulnerable Adult Protection policy, Mission Statement and Code of Practice are available in hard copy and on this website.

Welfare

The Skipper holds complete responsibility for your safety and that of others on board our vessel, and their instructions must always be followed.

Publicity

There may be occasions when photos will be taken for publicity or social media. You can opt-out of your photo being used publicly when filling out your application.
