Enjoy Your Sail
Preparing for your Sailing Trip
Prepare for a memorable and enjoyable experience aboard the “Pride of Man III” with our essential tips and recommendations.
From clothing choices to sea sickness precautions, this guide ensures you’re fully equipped to enjoy every moment on the open waters.
what to wear
Clothing Essentials
Layers are key to adapting to changing conditions, so wear warm clothing in two or three layers. It can be chilly out at sea, even during the summer months, so bring a hat, gloves and a windproof jacket.
We’ll provide you with foul weather gear (waterproofs) to wear over your own clothes if necessary. You should wear soft soled shoes (no black soles) at all times when aboard the yacht.
what to eat
Food and Drink
The evening before your sail you should have a light meal, and it’s best to avoid anything spicy.
Bring a packed lunch that is easy to digest and will give you energy, and some nibbles or sweets incase you feel peckish.
Just In Case
Seasickness Precautions
Even the most experienced of sailors can be affected by sea-sickness from time to time. If you’re susceptible to motion sickness or worried that you might be, consider bringing seasickness tablets or other remedies that have been recommended by your healthcare professional.
Check the dosage the night before and only take as directed. You should keep an empty plastic sandwich bag in your pocket, which can be handy if you start to feel queasy while on board.
alleviating symptoms
Seasickness Management
If you do start to feel unwell while on board, the best way to alleviate symptoms is to:
- Stay in the cockpit – going below deck will make you feel worse.
- Focus on the horizon or a distant object forward of the boat.
- If you need to be sick, use the empty sandwich bag.
There’s no need to be embarrassed if you start to feel unwell – simply tell one of the crew members and they’ll be happy to keep an eye on you and give advice on how best to manage it.
stay protected
Sun Protection
Protect yourself from the sun’s rays by bringing sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat.
On sunny days, remember to apply your sunscreen before boarding the yacht. On windy days, a tight-fitting or adjustable hat is best.
