There are few, if any, involved in Sailing for the Disabled who haven’t had the pleasure and privilege of meeting Arne Dahn. A founding member from the very start in 1984, Arne has been a steadfast figure in the charity’s journey over the past 40 years, holding numerous roles including Skipper, Crewmaster, Boat Manager, Committee Member, and Chairman. His contributions have been nothing short of foundational.
Arne’s extensive knowledge, generously shared, has shaped generations of crew members. Whether training new crew or joining us in challenging conditions at sea, Arne’s commitment and passion remain unwavering. At an age when many would step back, he still actively trains crew, inspiring us all with his resilience and dedication.
In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, the Board of Sailing for the Disabled had no hesitation in awarding Arne the End Endeavour Trophy for 2024. This honour is particularly fitting as it marks four decades of his invaluable involvement, and serves as a heartfelt thank you for all he has done and continues to do for our charity.
Arne’s role in shaping Sailing for the Disabled cannot be overstated; there would be no charity without his vision and dedication. He is not just a leader but a role model, embodying the spirit of inclusivity, adventure, and perseverance that defines us. We are deeply grateful for his service and look forward to many more memories with him at our side.
The Sailing for the Disabled Endeavour Award for Services to the charity is awarded by the board to recognise a significant contribution to the charity by a member. Previous winners are Alan Cope, Monica Clark and Frank Sanderson.
