Upgrade of the Chart Plotter

A chart plotter is an electronic device that displays detailed maps and accurate position data. They are often used to plan or track a route and will also display important information such as speed, course and depth.

Our current plotter is a Raymarine C120 system, which was provided when the boat was new – 10 years ago. The technology continues to move forward with new features which can enhance both the capability and the safety of Pride of Mann III.

The latest version of the Raymarine Axiom System allows the chart table console below and the console at the helm to talk to each other in real time, allowing the helmsman to access chart data directly from the helm.  The radar facility on the upgraded version can be shown at both consoles on the boat, whereas the current system relies on a crew member being at each console.

The system can also be used to read many of the sensors around the vessel, enhancing the information available to the skipper, such as speed, wind direction, fuel status, oil pressure, battery levels, etc.
