Disability Awareness Training

Good afternoon all!
The next planned training day for SFTD Disability Awareness training will be on Sunday 8th March 2020, 1000-1600hrs, and it will take place at ARC Learning in Tromode and on the boat POM III in Douglas marina. (more details to follow nearer the day)

It is important that new members to our charity complete this training in order to provide safe and appropriate care for our enabled sailors, and it will enhance confidence in helping us to provide memorable and enjoyable sailing experiences for those who join us on POM III.
The training is also open to any experienced crew who would like to update their knowledge and skills as this day is quite different from the previous RYA-based course.
Some of you will be aware that we had to postpone the last training day in December due to lack of numbers, so please try to attend. Looking forward to hearing from you via email, sms, WhatsApp or even a call if you have any questions!

Passing of Mr David Peter Killey

It is with great sadness that we learned of the recent passing of our member David Killey on 2nd December 2019.
 
David was a stalwart of the charity, and during his time as Chairman, was the inspiration and driving force behind the purchase of POM III.  There were many others who supported and implemented the purchase, but it was David who was the initial instigator behind the move to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the charity via the replacement of our main vessel.  
For my part, I feel honoured to have known and worked with David during my time as Treasurer.  His calm, measured approach to the most raucous of meetings said much about the man, and I will mourn his passing.  
In recent weeks our Committee had instigated an initiative to mark the many years of service he had given to the charity, and had purchased a framed photo of POM III.  Sadly we were too late to present this to David.  In David’s memory we have presented the photo to David’s wife Kath.  David was in our thoughts towards the end, and will hold a place in our affections for a long time to come.

The funeral service will take place Wednesday 18th December,  11.00 am at St Anthony's church, Onchan. Family flowers only please, donations in lieu if wished to either Sailing for the Disabled or Manx Blind Welfare Society.
 
 

Bag pack results Shoprite Ramsey

The Bag pack last Sunday at Shoprite in Ramsey was a roaring succes indeed on two fronts. With 13 volunteers! and both shoppers and packers all in good holiday spirits, goodwill was all around.

We are delighted to tell you that we collected a grand total of £663.10, £78.00 of which came from the sale of 14 bags (two sparkling sales whizz-kids discovered in May-Shui and Anthony!) We could have sold more, if we hadn't run out of bags at 1.00pm!

Sporting smart shirts with the SFTD logo and their names embroidered on, were Samantha and Rocky, who each sat astride a blue bucket, looking for all the world as if they were at the helm. They attracted a lot of attention. Thank you Sarah for dressing your bears so smartly. They are a credit to the charity. As indeed you ALL are!! 
Thank you Margaret for getting Peter, myself, the lucre and all our equipment home safely on that long, wet and wild night!
And a big thank you to Shoprite for having us.

Boat cleaning morning

Saturday morning from 9.30 onwards we will have a cleaning session to make sure the inside of the boat looks as good as the outside does. All members are invited to come and give a hand. 

We look forward to seeing you at the boat!
